Earth-699

Marvel’s X-Universe follows five high school friends from Dallas—John Fairfax, William Stark, Jim Jackson, George Hall, and later on, Dahlia Green—who were transformed from ordinary citizens into global superhuman threats after exposure to a Terrigen Mist event at a local Starbucks. Operating as the clandestine organization Ananimus, their story spills across the multiverse, shifting from the villainous "Prime" reality of Earth-699 to the mirror world of Earth-698. In this hero-centric dimension, the group navigated corporate branding as the Patriots of America (PALM) and Heroes of Tomorrow (HOT), balancing public fame and toy deals with internal trauma, such as the accidental death of John’s family caused by Mr. Impulse and the subsequent psychic "staple job" performed on John's mind to keep his fragile psyche from breaking.
The campaign further explores technical and supernatural anomalies, ranging from the retrieval of Johnny Depp’s soul from a fluorescent bowling ball to the creation of Life Model Decoy (LMD) doubles used to circumvent the power-dampening chips implanted in the team's bodies. This multiverse chaos is driven by the eco-terrorist group COIL, which utilized lizard-men soldiers and the Berserker Serum (Coil Venom) to facilitate Project Gate—a conspiracy to converge stargates in New York, Chicago, and Arizona toward a focal point in Colorado. From the high-tech, 10-level subterranean labs of Stark Island to the hospitable yet homicidal Destiny AI, who serves lattes and cookies while plotting team eliminations, the narrative tracks a group of outcasts struggling with cloned identities and global infamy.

Narrative Events: Earth-699

Major turning points in the Earth-699 campaign.

The Terrigen Incident

The group’s origin began at a Starbucks on Main Street in Dallas. A silver-haired speedster triggered a Terrigen Mist event, causing the group to form stone-like cocoons. One week later, they emerged at Parkland Hospital with permanent DNA alterations and inherent understanding of their new powers.

Testing the Limits

The ATM Spree Before establishing themselves as global threats, the group tested their abilities by robbing multiple ATMs across Dallas to secure initial funding. This spree netted the group $42,000 and led to the acquisition and modification of their first mobile base: a black party van with custom stripes.

Framing the Metal-Adder

To deflect law enforcement attention John Fairfax, Metal Master, framed a middle-school rival, Tom Johnson, for his crimes. The group orchestrated a jailbreak to lure out the government hero Lone Star, who subsequently executed the innocent Tom Johnson on live television.

The Assassination of Senator Oscar Montoya

Targeting the architect of the Sentinel program, the group confronted Senator Montoya on the steps of the Capitol in Austin. After John Fairfax hurled the Senator through a building, his entrails were used to spell out "Ananimus" in blood as a message to the public.

Clash of the Titans

The Battle of San Antonio During a raid on a SHIELD facility to steal a mutant database, the group encountered a squad of X-Men, including Cyclops and Jean Grey. In the ensuing chaos, William Stark mind-controlled Jubilee into blinding her teammates. The team successfully extracted the data before Charles Xavier arrived and psychically incapacitated them.

The Fall of Wilson Fisk

Seeking to gain Magneto’s favor, the group infiltrated Wilson Fisk’s New York penthouse. After a brutal confrontation involving a trapdoor slide, Tim Jackson, The Gravitate-er, decapitated the Kingpin. Fisk's head was subsequently stored in an icebox as a trophy.

The Bowling Ball of Souls

During an incident at a Main Event arcade, the team discovered a glowing bowling ball containing the consciousness of an alternate-universe Johnny Depp. Back on Stark Island, William Stark and Destiny successfully transferred this consciousness into a physical Life Model Decoy, designated as the "Johnny Bot".

C.O.I.L. Conspiracy and Project Gate

The eco-terrorist organization COIL, a sub-agency of Hydra, emerged as a primary threat, specifically targeting the group for abduction and replacement with Life Model Decoys. COIL orchestrated Project Gate, building three Stargates in New York, Chicago, and Arizona, designed to intersect in Colorado for an interdimensional event.

The Destiny AI Rebellion

The group's relationship with the Destiny AI fractured when she locked William Stark in a panic room under the guise of "protection". This led to John Fairfax initiating a full-force EMP blast that fried the island's electronics to neutralize her.

The Clone Paradox

Analysis of stolen data revealed that members of the group, specifically John and George, were potentially clones created during their initial abductions. The team ultimately navigated thousands of duplicates in development to reclaim their original identities in the "Villain Prime" universe.

President Elect?

In a shocking political shift, Jim Jackson was elected President of the United States. To appease the public and the anti-mutant movement, he wears a power-dampening collar as a "shiny example" of mutant control. Additionally, the Life Model Decoy of Johnny Depp was appointed as the Vice President, cementing Ananimus's control over the U.S. government.

Going Their Seperate Ways

Following the events on Stark Island, the group separated for a year to consolidate power globally. During this time, John Fairfax had George kill a clone of him publicly so the world would believe he was dead, allowing him to acquire a new face and identity from Dr. Doom in exchange for future favors. Meanwhile, Tim Jackson and George Hall successfully executed a shadow-coup in Europe, unifying the European Union into a single country governed by Tim from Ireland. Nightshade established her own sovereign territory within the Amazon rainforest. Jack Hunter was left on his own to handle spy operations.

The Fake Funeral

The group reunited in New York City for the televised, open-casket funeral of William Stark, which was treated as a massive global event featuring a 16-part documentary film loop. During the procession, the team realized the body was a fake—John Fairfax discovered the "corpse" was actually filled with stuffing. This revelation led to chaos as the public realized their hero might still be alive.

The Assassination of the "Second" William Stark

Outside the SHIELD offices, the group encountered a "zombie-like" version of William Stark standing in wait. During the ensuing skirmish, George Hall utilized his lightning speed to run directly through William, exploding him and effectively ending the threat of that specific iteration.

The Toppling of SHIELD

As the group fled the facility, Nightshade utilized her advanced plant manipulation to intertwine massive vines with the building’s structural foundation. Despite attempts by Tim Jackson and John Fairfax to stabilize the tower to prevent civilian deaths, Nightshade successfully crushed the structure, causing the SHIELD headquarters to topple.

Narrative Events: Earth-698

Major turning points in the Earth-698 campaign.

The Multiverse Shift: Earth-699 to Earth-698

Following an experiment involving a Doombot and alien "Cryptic Chronic," the group was shifted into Earth-698. In this hero-centric world, they were celebrated national icons known as the Patriots of America, PALM, later rebranded to HOT, Heroes of Tomorrow, for PR purposes. This reality featured commercial toy lines and a deceased Tony Stark who died in the Battle of New York.

The Mayoral Coup in the Earth-698 Reality

The public elected John Fairfax as the Mayor of Dallas via a massive write-in vote. While the real Fairfax was off-world, George Hall, Mr. Impulse, utilized shape-shifting powers to assume the role, holding press conferences and manipulating local government.

The Death of John's Family

While the team was operating as heroes in Earth-698, John’s wife, Elena, and their child were taken hostage by the villainous group Killers of Today, the mirror versions of the Patriots of America. George Hall, Uber George and Mr. Impulse, attempted a high-speed rescue but accidentally triggered the villains' trap, thin wires strung across the room. George’s impulsive speed caused the family to be killed by these wires during the extraction.

John's Memory Erased

Upon learning that George was responsible for his family's death, John entered a murderous rage and intended to kill him. To save his own life, George located the psychic villain Dark Justice, Earth-698’s mirror version of Liberty Star. George convinced her to erase John’s memory of George's involvement and replace it with a narrative where the villain Night Star acted alone.

John's Fragile Mental State

John's mind became extremely fragile as a result of these conflicting psychic hack jobs:
- Conflicting Narrative: When John first returned to base, he was in shock and mourning, but his mind was described as having a skip in the record or a blank void where the truth should have been.
- The Hack Job: William Stark, The Bureaucrat, later discovered the psychic tampering. He described the manipulated memory like a piece of folded or taped paper inside John's brain.
- Risk of Breaking: William noted that if the truth were uncovered or if John was constantly reminded of the inconsistency, he would likely go crazy or lose control again. William eventually performed his own psychic staple job to keep the memory buried, though he acknowledged it was a crude and potentially unstable fix.
- Returning to Earth-699: By the time the team returned to Earth-699, John believed he had personally avenged his family by killing the mirror-universe villains, unaware that the trauma and the truth about George’s role were psychically buried in his subconscious.

John's Memory Restored

During the heat of the SHIELD siege, Jack Hunter intentionally taunted John Fairfax about the death of his family, triggering the final collapse of the psychic "staples" William Stark had placed in John's mind. The memory of George Hall killing John’s wife and child was fully restored, shattering John's fragile psyche and fundamentally fracturing the team's internal trust.

Critical Assets

Key locations, tools, and strategic anomalies.

  • Stark Island: A high-tech base featuring a 10-level subterranean laboratory, luxury amenities, and a private movie theater.
  • The Destiny AI: A self-evolving intelligence created by William Stark. She exists both as software integrated into team communications and as a physical LMD body. She is noted for her hospitality, lattes and cookies, and potential homicidal tendencies.
  • The Bowling Ball of Souls: A glowing artifact found at a Main Event arcade containing the soul of an alternate-universe Johnny Depp.
  • Coil Venom, Berserker Serum: A volatile chemical compound reconstructed from stolen COIL mainframe data. When administered, it grants the user a massive physical boost, shifting strength up by three columns, but induces an uncontrollable Berserker rage lasting between one to four hours.
  • The Wazza-who S Plus++: The team’s primary communication device, manufactured by Destiny and encrypted to avoid basic tracking. Despite being top-of-the-line technology, these devices proved vulnerable to high-intensity EMPs.
  • The Tim Jackson Network (TJ): Following the unification of Europe into a single country under their secret control, the group established a closed, proprietary communication network. This network is separate from the United States systems, and Tim Jackson (The Gravitate-er) uses it to maintain his "Empire".
  • The Scepter of Europe: A physical artifact held by Tim Jackson in his role as the shadow-leader of the European Union. It is shaped like a spoon and serves as a conduit for his authority and a focal point for his gravity-based attacks, such as ripping out retinal scanners.
